Enrichment Resource
The Metropolitan Museum of Art created this engaging and attractive site, Knights in Central Park, to highlight its Arms and Armor collection. Click on one of four soldiers – North American, European, Islamic, or Japanese – to explore his armor and weapons. Each region showcases informative text complemented with artifacts from the museum. The most appealing feature is “Dressing Samurai Style”: step-by-step, an animated samurai is dressed while tradition and customs are explained. This fascinating opportunity to compare medieval Europe to medieval Japan enriches study of the rise of the warrior class in Japan.
