Woodrow Wilson’s (and hence America’s) journey from neutrality to engagement in World War I is explored in the PBS site, PBS American Experience—The Presidents: Woodrow Wilson. Be sure to visit the interactive timeline, where you can roll over image-links to primary source materials for each year of Wilson’s presidency. You will be able to trace the changes in America’s approach to foreign policy between 1914 and 1919. The “Wilson: A Portrait” segment contains a subsection that helps explain why U.S. leaders eventually decided to leave neutrality behind and enter World War I.
