Teaching Tip
Figuring out how to use graphic organizers with Kindergarten students early in the year can be challenging. Here is one idea that can help familiarize these students with the concept of sequencing and using graphic organizers.
Enlarge the Sequence Chain (found in the Social Studies Alive! Solutions for Effective Instruction book included in TCI’s elementary programs), make a 12×18 copy and laminate for each group of 3 or 4 students. Give each group the graphic organizer and pictures that represent the different events in a story the class has read.
As a group, the students can place the pictures on the enlarged graphic organizer in the order they occured. When the teacher goes over the correct sequence with the class, the students can manipulate the pictures and put them in the right square.
