Video of Street Life in San Francisco circa 1906

Video

This is a fantastic primary source video taken from a streetcar traveling toward the Ferry Building in San Francisco circa 1906; before the earthquake. As an 11th grade USH teacher, I can think of many uses for this video, albeit lengthy at seven minutes. It could be a terrific backdrop for Visual Discovery questioning or Act-It-Outs, a Response Group about the effects of modernization on urban life, a Writing for Understanding authentic news article about life before and after the earthquake, or a short primary source reading from the era, etc. The background ‘music’ is pretty hip as well. Enjoy!
